The American XL Bully canine will probably be banned by the tip of the yr following a sequence of assaults, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has stated.

In a video announcement posted to his X – previously Twitter – account on Friday, the PM stated the breed can be banned following a ‘sample of behaviour’ that he stated ‘can’t go on’.

Mr Sunak stated he has ordered ministers to convene a panel of specialists, together with the police, to outline the breed so it could actually then be outlawed.

The announcement got here after a person died in a suspected XL Bully assault in Stonnall, Staffordshire, the third incident involving allegedly out-of-control canines within the West Midlands in lower than every week.

‘It is clear this isn’t a few handful of badly skilled canines: it is a sample of behaviour and it can’t go on.

‘Whereas homeowners have already got a accountability to maintain their canines beneath management, I need to reassure people who we’re urgently engaged on methods to cease these assaults and shield the general public.

‘At present, I’ve tasked ministers to deliver collectively police and specialists to firstly outline the breed of canine behind these assaults with a view to then outlawing it.
