What will streaming services bring in 2022? Here are 4 trends to watch online

For the first time in two years, the streaming wars should carry on at full strength in 2022.

After the pandemic threw productions into havoc in 2020, with delays lingering through 2021, the pipeline for new series and movies is finally becoming unclogged. And that’s a good thing, because the major streaming services will spend an estimated $230 billion-plus on new content next year, according to a recent report by Ampere Analysis.

There are going to be a lot of moving pieces in the streaming game in 2022, from a slew of new series and movies, to potential consolidation, to global expansion, to changes to the very way we watch.

This month’s picks include a grim western teeming with bloodthirsty outlaws, humans fighting an alien invasion and more.

Here are four of the most interesting trends to watch for in this year:

Valentine’s Day may have arrived but for those sick of “happily ever after” there are a myriad of onscreen stories perfect to embrace any annoying feelings that linger on the day supposed to be filled with love.

Whether showcasing a couple arguing, singing about a failed marriage or learning how to embrace the single life, there’s a movie for every stage of the heartbreak process and encompasses an anti-love feeling.

The Hollywood Reporter takes a look at assembly of bitterly honest and at times downright angry films should be just what the doctor ordered to get you through that stupid lovers’ holiday.

It’s Valentine’s Day and there’s nothing better than sitting in with family, friends and that special someone and watching a movie.

New movies to stream, January 2022

If it’s new classics you’re looking for, there are movies that are a must for January 2022. Interview with the Vampire, inspired by Anne Rice’s classic novel and starring Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise and Kirsten Dunst, arrives on Netflix, streaming that will also feature another classic such as Martin Scorsese’s 1979 Taxi Driver, with Robert De Niro in the role of Travis Bickle, a Vietnam War veteran turned cab driver suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder.

To the HBO Max signal comes Memento, one of Christopher Nolan’s best works and starring Guy Pearce in the role of Leonard Shelby, a former insurance investigator who embarks on a mission of revenge after the rape and death of his wife Catherine.

Although this streaming service now also has a classic romantic comedy, Rob Reiner’s When Harry Met Sally, starring Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan.

Coming to Amazon Prime is Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol, the 2011 film by director Brad Bird, another installment with Tom Cruise as Ethan Hunt, accompanied by a great cast in this action and espionage franchise.

Also, David Fincher’s Panic Room will be available on Hulu, the film that unites Jodie Foster and Kristen Stewart as a recently divorced mother and her asthmatic teenage daughter who are robbed by three burglars who invade their home on New York’s Upper West Side.

In addition to these movies, if you want to see all the series that you will be able to watch on streaming platforms in January 2022, here we show you.
