She stated Calocane’s mother and father used to journey to Nottingham to go to him ‘and have been to see him since this occurred’, however described them as ‘very personal folks.’

She stated that when she knew Calocane at church he was ‘very dedicated – he was not an outgoing lad however fairly steady at the moment’.

She added: ‘He was a bit withdrawn however he was a great lad.

‘Now we have supported the household and stated prayers for them, for Valdo and for his victims.

‘His mother and father nonetheless come to church. With out their religion I do not know the way they might have coped.

‘They’re a stunning couple and their neighbours have been supportive.’

Mrs Vaughan stated the congregation at Calvary Church in Haverfordwest had stated prayers for the six victims of the June assault within the days afterwards – with out realising the perpetrator’s family had been members of the church.
