Venom 2 movie release on Marvel Website & Social Media ignored

Looking at Marvel’s social media as there is no mention of the film. The first Venom was a surprise hit when it opened in theaters, grossing $856.1 million worldwide, and Sony put in an effort to expand their own cinematic universe. Venom: Let There Be Carnage is the second film in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe and features Marvel characters Venom, Carnage, and Shriek.

Venom is arguably one of Marvel’s most merchandisable characters, as his image can be found on numerous comic books, t-shirts, and merchandise. Marvel Comics has even put more emphasis on expanding Venom and Carnage’s mythology with the creation of characters like Knull the King in Black and the creation of the weapon the Necrosword. It appeared that Marvel was building up anticipation for Venom: Let There Be Carnage and was going all-in on supporting the character.

Despite all this, it appears that Marvel has not made any reference to its release. On the Marvel website, there is no mention of the release of Venom: Let There Be Carnage. Under the movie tabs they have all of the MCU films and the Fox movies that were acquired in Disney’s Acquisition, but no mention of the non-MCU Sony films. The Marvel Entertainment Twitter also has made no reference to the release of Venom: Let There Be Carnage, which instead is reminding fans to get tickets for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.

Before Marvel Studios, Marvel would put emphasis on all of their films on their websites, and even with the release of Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk in 2008, the company would still put focus on non-MCU properties like X-Men: Origins Wolverine, which would be the last Fox X-Men movie to get a toyline. However once Disney purchased the studio, there was more of an effort to put focus on characters the company had film rights to. The X-Men in the comics took a backseat to the Inhumans, as Marvel was positioning them to be the MCU replacement for the team and the cast of the 2015 Fantastic 4 reboot was even killed off in the pages of a Punisher comic. Now that Disney and Marvel acquired the rights for both franchises, The X-Men and Fantastic 4 have had massive returns in the comics.

Venom: Let There Be Carnage is made by Sony, and Marvel Entertainment, which is a subsidiary of Disney, is still looking to put the emphasis on their films first with Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings still in theaters and Eternals a month away. The two studios will likely work closely together on the release of Spider-Man: No Way Home as both studios have a stake in that film’s success. However, this means that Morbius will likely also get ignored on the Marvel social media sites, as well in future Sony Spider-Man films.
