Update 5 Korean Box Offices This Week

This week’s Korean box office has been dominated by several new films, such as Uncharted, starring Tom Holland and Death on the Nile, Gal Gadot’s latest film. Not only that, the film The Pirates: The Last Royal Treasure also survived in the Korean box office this week. However, this film dropped to third place after being in first position for two weeks.

1. Uncharted

Uncharted (2022) will tell the adventures of Nathan Drake (Tom Holland) who is recruited by Victor ‘Sully’ Sullivan (Mark Wahlberg) to find the greatest treasure. The treasure was collected by Ferdinand Magellan and lost 500 years ago.

If Nathan and Sully can solve one of the world’s oldest mysteries, they will find a treasure worth US$5 billion and a chance to find Nathan’s long-lost brother. This week, Uncharted sold 70,278 tickets at 1,536, which is equivalent to US$545.7 thousand.

2. Death on the Nile

Death on the Nile (2022) tells the story of Simon Doyle (Armie Hammer), a handsome young man who falls in love with Jacqueline de Bellefort (Emma Mackey).

However, Doyle decides to marry Ridgeway (Gal Gadot) and travels down the Nile by cruise ship. Their journey suddenly changes when a shocking murder occurs. Death on the Nile this week sold 6,308 tickets on 629 screens, equivalent to US$48.7 thousand.

3. The Pirates: The Last Royal Treasure

The Pirates: The Last Royal Treasure tells the story of a group of people gathered on a ship to find the last treasure of the Goryeo royal family which disappeared without a trace after the kingdom was replaced by Joseon.

This week, The Pirates: The Royal Treasure sold 5,494 tickets on 580 screens, which was equivalent to US$30.7 thousand. The Pirates 2 became the first Korean film to get over 1 million viewers at the local box office in 2022.

4. Kingmaker

Kingmaker tells of Seo Chang-dae’s dream of changing the world so that he takes part in Kim Woon-bun’s political campaign. In order to fight the ruling party, Chang-dae adopted an aggressive propaganda campaign and made Kim the strongest candidate in the opposition party. Kingmaker this week sold 4,216 tickets on 498 screens or the equivalent of US $ 23.6 thousand.

5. Spider-Man: No Way

Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021)  tells the story of the dilemma that Peter Parker (Tom Holland) feels after he is slandered and his identity exposed by Mysterio (Jake Gyllenhaal) before dying in a fight in London.

Until then, Peter Parker had an idea. He went to Doctor Strange who had both fought against Thanos. To Strange, Peter asks for help to make everyone forget that he is Spider-Man. This week, Spider-Man: No Way Home has raised $16.7K from sales of 2,339 tickets on 328 screens.
