Tom Cruise Latest Finally Theatrical Release Top Gun: Maverick

“My dad believed in you. I’m not gonna make the same mistake.” As shown in the latest Top Gun: Maverick trailer, arriving as Paramount now seems to have finally settled on a theatrical release for the movie on May 27, Tom Cruise’s Pete “Maverick” Mitchell must gain the courage to face Miles Teller’s Bradley Bradshaw.

Bradley, who goes by the call sign Rooster, is the son of Nick Bradshaw, a.k.a. Goose, Maverick’s former Radar Intercept Officer who died in the first movie after a competitive training mission went wrong. Bradley is now all grown up in the trailer for the sequel, and he’s not warming up to Maverick, even as the rebellious flyer now finds himself training a new generation of TOPGUN graduates for a mission the likes of which no living pilot has ever seen.

“Let me be perfectly blunt: you were not my first choice,” says Jon Hamm’s Vice Admiral Cyclone. “You are here at the request of Admiral Kazansky, a.k.a. Iceman.” The footage then lingers on a portrait photograph of Val Kilmer’s character, who was Maverick’s TOPGUN rival in the first film. Kilmer, in fact, returns for the sequel beyond this photo.

“He seems to think you have something left to offer the Navy,” Cyclone continues. “What that is I can’t imagine.”

Top Gun: Maverick also features Jennifer Connelly, Glen Powell, Lewis Pullman, Charles Parnell, Bashir Salahuddin, Monica Barbaro, Jay Ellis, Danny Ramirez, Greg Tarzan Davis, and a returning Ed Harris.

Will Rooster ever forgive Maverick for the fateful event that took his father’s life? Hard to say. But Maverick wants to make one thing clear: “I’m not a teacher. Just want to manage expectations.”

After several delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Top Gun: Maverick is (finally) almost here.

The sequel to 1986’s Top Gun picks up over 30 years after the original left off, with Pete “Maverick” Mitchell (Tom Cruise) excelling as a Navy test pilot and turning down any advancements that would ground him. When Maverick begins training a new generation of pilots for an unprecedented mission, he meets Bradley (Miles Teller), the son of Maverick’s late friend Nick “Goose” Bradshaw.

The two get off to a rocky start in the latest trailer, which also boasts some epic flying sequences.

Once again, we feel the need… the need for speed.

Another Top Gun movie is making its way to theatres, and of course, it is bringing Tom Cruise with it.

It is officially called Top Gun: Maverick, serving as a follow-up to the 1986 classic starring Cruise as Pete “Maverick” Mitchell, as well Kelly McGilllis, Val Kilmer, Tom Skerritt and Anthony Edwards.

Along with Cruise, this one stars Jon Hamm, and marks the return of Kilmer in the role of Iceman. Noted character actor Ed Harris also appears as an admiral. Jennifer Connelly is in the present-day female lead. It is due to take flight on May 27.

“In the new footage, we meet the latest crop of the Navy’s top pilots, and according to one them, ‘Everyone here is the best there is.’ So, naturally, they’re a bit cocky as they wonder who their new teacher is. Enter: Tom Cruise.”

For those who never saw the original, What To Watch described it this way: “Maverick likes to push it to the limit, but that ends up getting him in trouble and his confidence gets shaken following a tragic accident. But the happy ending prevails and he saves the day and gets the girl.”

You can likely expect something quite similar this time, meaning it should be every bit as predictable … and magical.
