The Amazing Filming Process of Scream 2022 and a New Experience for the Players

Scream is one of the horror franchises that has left a mark on the hearts of viewers since the 90s. The first film was released in 1996 and directed by Wes Craven by installing Neve Campbell, Couteney Cox, David Arquette, to Keet Ulrich as the main character. The success of the first film made Scream exist until 25 years later and the fifth film was released with the same title as the first film without the frills numbers like the three previous sequels.

None of them thought that this film would become a pop culture phenomenon in America at that time, including Neve Campbell. In several interviews, the Sidney Prescott actor told how he and the players talked about whether Scream 5 (2022) would be successful and be accepted by the public. Not a few of them have doubts about it. Until finally the first film aired and since then every Halloween there are many people wearing Ghostface costumes, then Neve Campbell realized that the film he played was very loved.

Scream 5 (2022) is now back bringing the characters played by Neve, David, and Courteney to the screen. The three of them are met with a series of new characters played by young stars whose names are also on the rise: Sam (Melissa Barrera), Tara (Jenna Ortega), Richie (Jack Quaid), Amber (Mikey Madison), Wes (Dylan Minnette), the twins. Mindy (Jasmin Savoy Brown) and Chad (Mason Gooding), and Liv (Sonia Ben Ammar).

Dylan Minnette said that the senior players really welcomed him on set. Dylan was also one of the ‘Bob Ross painting training participants’ held by David Arquette at the hotel where they stayed during the shooting process. The 13 Reasons Why actor recalled it as a memorable experience, as did Mason Gooding and Jasmin Savoy Brown in interviews in separate virtual rooms.

Two other Scream actresses, Sonia Ben Ammar and Mikey Madison, talked more deeply about shooting this fifth film. They agreed, the time spent on set is an unforgettable and ‘crazy’ experience.

“Filming Scream is an amazing experience. I’m very grateful to be involved here,” said Mikey. “We were filming at the beginning of the pandemic which was still severe, I’m grateful we were able to go together to a small town, make a film there, wow this is a crazy experience,” he continued.

Sonia Ben Ammar agrees. As a newcomer to the Hollywood film industry, playing in Scream with a stellar line-up and in a production of the most iconic horror franchise he called one of life’s most unforgettable moments. The role of senior players in attaching chemistry between players behind the scenes seems to be very large and important.

“We went to the beach with Neve and had a great day at her house, we had a barbecue. Then after filming Courteney had a karaoke party, we sang and danced together, it was so much fun. I’ll remember this for the rest of my life! behind the camera, the friendship that exists and the closeness between us, this is all amazing. For me this is the best experience, “said the actress of Arab-French descent.

Sonia was very impatient to hear the response from Scream fans for this fifth film. On the aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes, Scream (2022) received a Certified Fresh rating with a score of 77% from 235 reviews. Its audience score is much higher at 83% with more than 2,500 accounts rating them. Scream (2022) presents many nostalgic things from the first film since the first scene with an effective comedy spice and of course far more sadistic than the previous films.

Scream (2022) is directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillet who previously had success with Ready or Not (2019). They also hired the same screenwriter from the film to continue the legacy of Wes Craven. As fans of the Scream franchise, the duet of Matt and Tyler makes this fifth film a tribute not only to Wes Craven but also to Scream fans who have been loyal since 25 years ago. “He’s been a part of our lives since we were kids. I never, at all, imagined that we would make a film that was his legacy,” said Matt Bettinelli-Olpin.
