The 4 best movies to watch this week

movie viewing kicks off on Wednesday this week with JJ+E, a Swedish Romeo and Juliet-type romance between two teens from vastly different backgrounds who end up in the same class at high school.

A vastly different movie arrives on Thursday: Blood Brothers: Malcolm X & Muhammad Ali. The documentary lifts the veil on Malcolm X and Muhammad Ali’s extraordinary bond as it cracks under the weight of distrust and shifting ideals. On the same day, you can watch another documentary in The Women and the Murderer, about a police chief and a victim’s mother who tirelessly chase and prosecute serial killer Guy Georges, in 1990s Paris.

Hope you’ve cleared your Friday schedule — a total of three movies round out the week and, covering all of bases, one is an international film, one is a product of the algorithm and one is an animated family fantasy. Prey (2021) is a German thriller about friends who’re hunted by a mysterious shooter while on a hiking trip. Kate (2021) stars Mary Elizabeth Winstead as an assassin who, after being poisoned, has 24 hours to exact revenge on her enemies. Somewhere along the way, she finds time to befriend the daughter of one of them.

Finally, Firedrake the Silver Dragon (2020), which is definitely not to be mistaken for How to Train Your Dragon, follows a boy, his dragon and a mountain spirit on an adventure in search of a special haven for dragons. I repeat, no relation to How to Train Your Dragon.

Last week saw the arrivals of comedy Afterlife of the Party (2021), documentary Final Account (2020) and biopic Worth (2020). For more, scroll down to find a list of best originals, including films acquired the rights to distribute in the US.

Best Original movies

Adventure comedy in which Ryan ReynFree Guys plans to break out as a non-playable character in an online game.

Guy (Ryan ReynFree Guys) is a bank clerk who is easy to overlook. Every day he follows the same daily routine, he is not surprised at robberies, but follows the instructions. If he dies, he’ll wake up the next morning. He is a non-playable character, or NPC for short, in the open-world online game “Free City”. When he meets a pretty woman nicknamed Molotov Girl (Jodie Comer) on the street, he feels love for the first time. He and his buddy Buddy (Lil Rel Howery) discuss how he can get hold of beauty. When he actually succeeds, Milly, her real name, confesses to him about his true origins. But that’s not enough: his days are numbered. The game should be shut down soon. The world as Guy knows it will no longer exist.

He tries with all means to break out of the online world and meets other characters like Keys (Joe Keery), Milly aka Molotov Girl’s friend in real life. Together they start a revolution among the NPCs and game company boss Antoine (Taika Waititi) does everything to stop them.

Third part of the romance with Josephine Langford and Hero Fiennes Tiffin

The story of Tessa Young (Josephine Langford) and daredevil Hardin Scott (Hero Fiennes Tiffin) continues. After “After Passion” and “After Truth”, which delighted audiences in the cinema years 2019 and 2020, the saga is continued with “After Love”.

They love and they quarrel. Tessa and Hardin can’t with each other, but neither can they without each other. After Tessa learned more about her past at the end of “After Truth”, she offended Hardin again. Instead of facing the past, he advises her to keep her distance and hurt her feelings in the process. Quarrels, problems and jealousy are inevitable.

The question arises as to how many hurdles the love of the two can overcome and whether a spatial separation of Hardin and Tessa must mean the final end.

In phase 4 of the MCU, Marvel presents us with a new hero: martial artist Shang-Chi. He is confronted with his past and has to assert himself against his father, the Mandarin.
Now that phase 3 of the MCU has now been completed, new Marvel heroes are conquering the big screen. One of them is the outstanding Chinese martial artist Shang-Chi (Simu Liu).
Strictly speaking, Shang-Chi has no “real” superpowers in the comics, but he is an outstanding martial artist who is characterized by almost superhuman endurance, agility and reflexes. In addition, he has perfected his chi to such an extent that he can even smash metal and dodge or deflect bullets.

Old 2021 United States of America Mystery Film von Douglas Aibel und mit Gael García Bernal, Vicky Krieps.
