Sony Pictures has had considerable success with their Spider-Verse films, including Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, 2 Venom films, and the upcoming Morbius. However, one of the more exciting future Spider-centric projects is their own Madame Web. This film will star Dakota Johnson as the main character. Now, Deadline reports that Sydney Sweeney who stole the show in the Euphoria series has joined the project.
The film is directed by SJ Clarkson and written by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless, from an earlier draft by Kerem Sanga. Not much is known about the project. Sweeney himself has been quite busy starring in Euphoria, and is currently involved in the National Anthem project, along with Simon Rex and Halsey. He has also been involved in the thrillers The Voyeurs, Nocturne and Big Time Adolescence. He is also involved in the series The White Lotus.

This character is usually (in the comics) depicted as an old woman with myasthenia gravis, which leaves her confined to a life support system that resembles a spider’s web. He doesn’t actively fight criminals but helps Spider-Man as a fortune teller. There is also a younger version of Madame Web, a character named Julia Carpenter who gains her powers of precognition and serves as the new Madame Web when the previous one is killed. It’s unclear whether Johnson played one of the two versions or a new incarnation.

Madame Web will be part of the Sony Universe of Marvel Characters. This world also includes the films Venom and Venom: Let There Be Carnage, along with the upcoming Morbius. The universe is yet to feature its own Spider-Man, although Tom Hardy’s Venom has visited the Marvel Cinematic Universe featuring Tom Holland, a thing that teases the possibility of a crossover. It remains to be seen if Spider-Man will also play any role in Madame Web’s solo film.

The character Madame Web is perhaps best known as a figure from the 1994 animated series Spider-Man, and the 2010 game Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions, in which she played a major supporting role. His character usually acts as a supporter of Spider-Man. Debuting in “The Amazing Spider-Man #210,” the real name Cassandra Webb became an important supporting character in the Spider-Man comics. He is a mutant who masters various psychic powers such as telepathy, seeing the future, to detecting psionic powers in a person’s body. However, her disease myasthenia gravis makes Madame Web unable to escape from a life support device shaped like a spider web.
