“Shang-Chi” Prints History of Korean “Box Office”

The film Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings not only managed to dominate the North American box office. The latest Marvel film also immediately dominated the Korean box office this week.

That makes After We Fell have to drop to number two after reigning at the top last week. Meanwhile, Justin Lin film, Fast & Furious 9 managed to stay in third place.

Based on data from the Korean Film Council, here are four Korean box office films this week.

1. Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings film are the first Asian superheroes in the MCU. Its presence as a representation of Asia is similar to that of Black Panther who is present as a representation of Africa.

This film tells the story of Shang-Chi who is forced to face his past after being pulled into his father’s organization, the Ten Rings.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings streaming, Since opening on September 1, 2021, the film has collected US$6.6 million from sales of 754,986 tickets on 1,783 screens.

2. After We Fell

As Tessa makes a life-changing decision, revelations about her family and Hardin’s past threaten to derail her plans and end the couple’s intense relationship.

After We Fell is an upcoming romantic drama film based on the hit-novel, After We Fell. After We Fell is the third film in the After film series. It premieres in the United States in October, 2021. The film was announced on September 3, 2020, by returning series stars Josephine Langford and Hero Fiennes Tiffin.

The film sold 258,751 tickets or the equivalent of US$2 million through screenings in 1,163 theaters this week. After 3 film streaming have sold 1,398,549 tickets or the equivalent of US$11.7 million since airing September 1, 2021.

3. Fast & Furious 9

F9 (also known as F9: The Fast Saga and internationally as Fast & Furious 9) is a 2021 American action film directed by Justin Lin from a screenplay by Daniel Casey and Lin.[9] It is the sequel to The Fate of the Furious (2017), the ninth main installment, and the tenth full-length film in the Fast & Furious franchise. The film stars Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Nathalie Emmanuel, Charlize Theron, and John Cena. In F9, Dominic Toretto and the team come together to stop a world-shattering plot headed by Toretto’s brother, Jakob.

This week, Fast & Furious 9 film streaming sold 189,883 tickets, or the equivalent of US$1.5 million through screenings on 918 screens. Fast & Furious 9 has sold 3,248,498 tickets since it premiered June 20, 2021.

4. The Suicide Squad

The Suicide Squad is a 2021 American superhero film based on DC Comics featuring the team Suicide Squad. Produced by DC Films, Atlas Entertainment, and The Safran Company, and distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, it is a standalone sequel to Suicide Squad (2016) and the tenth film in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU). It was written and directed by James Gunn and stars an ensemble cast including Margot Robbie, Idris Elba, John Cena, Joel Kinnaman, Sylvester Stallone, Viola Davis, David Dastmalchian, Daniela Melchior, Michael Rooker, Jai Courtney, Peter Capaldi, Alice Braga, and Pete Davidson. In the film, a task force of convicts known as the Suicide Squad are sent to the island nation of Corto Maltese to destroy evidence of the giant alien starfish Starro the Conqueror.

The government sends the most dangerous supervillains in the world — Bloodsport, Peacemaker, King Shark, Harley Quinn and others — to the remote, enemy-infused island of Corto Maltese. Armed with high-tech weapons, they trek through the dangerous jungle on a search-and-destroy mission, with only Col. Rick Flag on the ground to make them behave.

The Suicide Squad 2 film streaming sold 128,933 tickets, or the equivalent of $1 million, through screenings in 987 theaters this week.
