Ryan Gosling to Star in ‘Ocean’s Eleven’ Prequel

Warner Bros. Discovery recently announced that they would be bringing the fan-favorite Ocean’s Eleven franchise back to life with a prequel starring Margot Robbie and Jay Roach lined up to direct with a script from Carrie Solomon.

Now, a new report from Puck claims that Ryan Gosling will be joining Robbie. Robbie and Gosling are currently starring in the “Barbie” project, in which both are acting in the lead roles. While it would be an interesting walk to see them pull off a thrilling heist, nothing has been confirmed yet.

According to the report, the new studio regime led by CEO David Zaslav wants to prioritize films that can make millions in theaters first. The studio is also reported to have several titles almost ready to be given the green light, of which, the Ocean films are among them.

As you know, in recent months, the new management has made several changes by canceling many scripted shows on their network and on HBO Max, including the most controversial decision to sideline the “Batgirl” film for tax purposes. It was also reported that Walter Hamada was close to stepping down after the decision but had agreed to stay on until Dwayne Johnson’s “Black Adam” was released.

Nonetheless, given the new management’s interest in making the studio a more profitable venture, the Ocean franchise seemed the way to go. The franchise is one of the studio’s most prominent IPs standing next to the Harry Potter films and the DC universe.

The first “Ocean’s Eleven” was set in the 1960s, starring Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, and Sammy Davis Jr.. The film tells the story of a group of World War II veterans who go on a heist to rob five Las Vegas banks on the same night.

The film was later remade in 2001 with George Clooney and Brad Pitt turning into a trilogy following the crew on various heists. Then in 2018, the franchise was revived with an all-female crew of robbers in “Ocean’s Eight”.
