Rupert Friend and Stuart Martin Join Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon Film Project

The Rebel Moon film project that is being worked on by Zack Snyder has again added a new star to the cast list. Rupert Friend and Stuart Martin have reportedly signed a contract to take part in the Netflix sci-fi film.

They will be joined by Sofia Boutella (Atomic Blonde), as well as a cast including Charlie Hunnam (Sons of Anarchy), Djimon Hounsou (The King’s Man), Doona Bae (The Silent Sea), and Ray Fisher (Justice League).

Friend, best known for his role as the main character in Hitman: Agent 47, will join the project as an as-yet-unnamed villain who will lead Belisarius’ army and will clash with the film’s main protagonist, played by Boutella.

Outside of Hitman: Agent 47, Rupert Friend is widely known for his season five role as Peter Quinn on the Homeland series. Friend recently started production on the Wes Anderson adaptation of The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar and Six More, and will appear in the highly anticipated Star Wars series Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Rebel Moon tells the story of a peaceful colony living on the edge of the galaxy that is threatened by the arrival of an army of tyrants led by Regent Balisarius. In a quest to survive, the colony sends a young woman with a mysterious past to seek out warriors from a neighboring planet to help them. Sofia Boutella (Star Trek: Beyond, Atomic Blonde, Kingsman: The Secret Service) will star in the film.

Zack Snyder, who also wrote the script for Rebel Moon with Kurt Johnstad and Shay Hatten, with story ideas by Snyder and Johnstad. Snyder will also serve as director and producer of the film.

“This project exists because I grew up as a fan of Akira Kurosawa, a fan of Star Wars,” Snyder said previously of the film. “This is my love of sci-fi and giant adventure. My hope is that this film can also become a big IP and build a universe that continues to grow.”

The announcement for Snyder’s latest film was made after the success of Army of the Dead. Zack and Deborah Snyder’s production company, The Stone Quarry, sealed a deal with Netflix and Snyder called the project the next big job soon after Army. Deborah Snyder, Wesley Coller, and Snyder will be working as co-producers with Eric Newman.
