Great Actor Andrew Garfield Wins His First Golden Globe for Tick, Tick… Boom!

Actor Andrew Garfield won his first Golden Globe for appearing in the musical Tick, Tick… Boom!. The Golden Globe is the first time Garfield has won out of three nominations he has received since 2011.

At the 2022 Golden Globe Awards, Andrew Garfield beat a number of top names in the Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy category, such as Leonardo DiCaprio (Don’t Look Up), Peter Dinklage (Cyrano), Cooper Hoffman (Licorice Pizza), and Anthony Ramos (In the Heights).

“It takes 43 muscles to smile. Thanks for the workout Andrew Garfield, and congratulations on bringing home the #GoldenGlobe for Best Actor – Motion Picture – Musical/Comedy,” the 2022 Golden Globe Awards organizers wrote in a tweet on Monday (10/1) morning.

Tick, tick… Boom! follows the character Jonathan David Larson (Andrew Garfield) who is the theater composer behind the success of Rent’s 1996 show. Prior to becoming a theater composer, Larson worked at the Moondance Diner restaurant. About a week before his 30th birthday, Larson expressed a desire to become a successful musical theater composer.

Movie tick, tick…BOOM! directed by Lin-Manuel Miranda best known as the author and actor of the Broadway musicals In the Heights and Hamilton. Apart from Andrew Garfield, this film also stars a row of other well-known actors and actresses, such as Vanessa Hudgens, MJ Rodriguez and Alexandra Shipp. Not only that, this film will also feature alumni players on the Broadway stage, such as Jordan Fisher and Joshua Henry.

Meanwhile, the 2022 Golden Globe Awards ceremony which was held this morning was held without a live broadcast as usual. Celebrities also refused to attend the season opener.

As reported by Variety, Monday (10/1) morning Indonesian time, this was due to the cancellation of the live broadcast by NBC due to a number of scandals surrounding the organizer of the 2022 Golden Globe Awards, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA).

The scandals ranged from allegations of corruption to racial issues from the composition of members of the decades-old institution.

On Friday (7/1), the HFPA announced that the media would not be invited to attend or cover the event. Winners will be announced on social media and the Golden Globe website.

Several winners of the 2022 Golden Globe Awards have been announced through social media, such as Encanto which won the best animated film and the film Drive My Car which won the best non-English language film.
