The post-credits scene of Venom: Let There Be Carnage will change all Marvel films forever. This scene was a fan’s wish that finally came true.
This post-credits scene is probably the answer to many expectations regarding Venom and the entire Marvel movie. This is where the long-awaited crossover will be realized. Previously, it was said that the Avengers were in the world of Venom, but Venom did not know Spider-Man.
So what does the post-credits scene from Venom 2 online mean for the future of Marvel films as a whole?
The biggest reveal in the post-credits scene of Venom: Let There Be Carnage is Eddie Brock (Tom Hardy) being sent from his universe to the MCU. This is clearly indicated by the visual of Eddie lying on a bed in a cheap hotel room. However, the room suddenly changed for the better.
Observant viewers will know that this part of the room is “bug” like the animated film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, with such a glitch indicating a changing universe. When the room was finished changing, the news was on the TV and what was playing was J Jonas Jameson reporting that Peter Parker was Spider-Man—with footage of Peter in a Spider-Man costume without a mask.
All of this clearly indicates that Venom is now in the MCU—meaning, he hasn’t been and has somehow been sent to a different universe. Although the Marvel character, Venom is not set in the MCU because this film comes from Sony Pictures. The studio struck a deal with Marvel Studios and Disney prior to Captain America: Civil War to loan Spider-Man so he could appear in the MCU.
In 2019, the deal was finalized. However, the two studios reached a new agreement. Although details are unknown, it is reported that it includes a solo film—Spider-Man: No Way Home—and a team film. Perhaps, Venom joining the MCU is also part of the deal. This could explain why Marvel Studios agreed to the post-credits scene even though it was previously reported to have hindered Sony’s efforts to get Venom into the MCU.
Venom’s history before meeting Eddie is still a mystery in the two character films. The first film explains that the symbiote intends to take over the earth. Venom is so good because he’s attached to Eddie. She felt a connection with Eddie because both of them were losers.
The Venom 2 film online post-credits scene features the symbiote shedding some light on his past. “80 billion light years of knowledge nests across the universe will blow up your tiny little brain,” he told Eddie. He then offered a little of what he had experienced. But, that didn’t happen because they were sent to the MCU all of a sudden.
What should be noted about Venom’s explanation is that he said light years, which is a measure of distance, not time. So, the exact timeline of how long Venom has been around isn’t really revealed. However, the mention of “across the universe” does indicate that this symbiotic mind nest can share knowledge across the multiverse.
That means, if Venom mentions “that guy” when he sees MCU Peter Parker, he knows Spider-Man. Then there might be a symbiote on earth somewhere in the MCU. It also means that Venom has also accessed Topher Grace’s Venom knowledge from Spider-Man 3. This further means that the symbiotic mind nest knows that there are many Peter Parkers throughout the multiverse.
It’s unclear whether Marvel or Sony will shed more light on this aspect of the symbiote’s mythology in future films. But, it definitely opens the door for neat connections across the Spider-Man multiverse. At the very least, this highlights just how vast Venom’s knowledge of the multiverse is like that symbiotic nest can share knowledge from different universes.
This could prove to help Venom fight Spider-Man or return to his original universe. All in all, there’s some reveal in the post-credits scene in Venom: Let There Be Carnage. This scene establishes an exciting future for Eddie Brock, the MCU and Sony’s Marvel movies.
