There’s going to a be a movie about the life of Weird Al Yankovic, and Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe will play playing Weird Al. That’s it. That’s the news.
Coming soon to the Roku Channel, Weird: The Weird Al Yankovic Story will tell the tale of the Grammy-winning musician, comedian and general weirdo, in his own words. Co-written by the man himself, the film holds nothing back, promises Roku, exploring every facet of Yankovic’s life, from his meteoric rise to fame with early hits like Eat It and Like a Surgeon to his torrid celebrity love affairs and famously depraved lifestyle.

As the world’s biggest movie star, it’s hardly a shock to discover that fans have been spending their weekend watching movies featuring Dwayne Johnson, but it’s still impressive that his reach covers multiple platforms.
Born in California in 1959, Alfred Matthew Yankovic went from being a DJ to making comedy records parodying hits like the Michael Jackson song Beat It (the aforementioned Eat It, a hit in 1984 partly thanks to a video heavily aired on MTV).
The biopic is written by Yankovic and Eric Appel, who also directs. It’s being produced by Funny or Die.

Daniel Radcliffe to Play Weird Al Yankovic in New Biopic. The film, “Weird: The Al Yankovic Story,” will begin production next month and will be available for streaming on the Roku Channel. For years, actors have challenged themselves by disappearing into portrayals of famous musicians. Think Joaquin Phoenix as Johnny Cash. Don Cheadle as Miles Davis. Jennifer Lopez as Selena. To that list, the Roku streaming service is adding an unconventional pairing. Daniel Radcliffe, who has been stretching after growing up as Harry Potter in eight movies, will star in a biopic for one of the strangest and most popular musicians of all time: Weird Al Yankovic. Weird Al, whose real name is Alfred Matthew Yankovic, said in a statement that he had vowed to his fans to “release a major motion picture every 33 years, like clockwork.” His last film, “UHF,” a box office bomb that turned into a cult classic, was released in 1989.
