Concept designer Jeremy Love has shared a number of pieces of concept art for a cut Thor: Love and Thunder scene featuring Jaimie Alexander’s Lady Sif. The actress first took on the role of the Asgardian warrior in 2011’s Thor. Alexander has since played the character across three films and three television series.
Following her absence from the people of Asgard in Thor: Ragnarok, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame, Alexander returned as Lady Sif for a brief appearance in Taika Waititi’s latest Thor adventure, Love and Thunder. As Gorr the God-Butcher (Christian Bale) begins his quest to wipe out all gods, Thor (Chris Hemsworth) receives a distress call from Sif, who tracked the villain after he murdered the colossal god Falligar. Traveling to an ice world, Thor and Korg (Waititi) find a wounded Sif, having lost her arm to Gorr, before taking her back to New Asgard for aid. Natalie Portman has teased the film’s deleted scenes in past interviews and now a number of recently shared pieces of concept art have revealed an extended sequence involving Sif that never made it to film.
Shang-Chi Not Loki for Lady Sif finally came back to the MCU in Loki, but her return could have worked out much better if it had happened in Marvel’s Shang-Chi movie. Lady Sif’s Best MCU Return Was Shang-Chi Not Loki
Lady Sif finally came back to the MCU in Loki, but her return could have worked out much better if it had happened in Marvel’s Shang-Chi movie.
The best way for Lady Sif to return to the MCU would have been a role in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. Instead, the MCU gave Jaimie Alexander’s Asgardian heroine a cameo in Loki episode 4, where a time loop induced by the TVA forced Loki (Tom Hiddleston) to repeatedly relive a past encounter with her.
Prior to Sif’s guest appearance on Loki, the last time she was around was in a season 2 episode of Agents of SHIELD, which aired in 2015. Her long absence can be attributed primarily to Alexander being busy with Blindspot when Thor: Ragnarok was filming. As a result, she was nowhere to be found when Thor (Chris Hemsworth) was fighting for his homeland against Hela (Cate Blanchett). In hindsight, that might not be a bad thing, considering that most of the Asgardians were killed off during the conflict, including Thor and Sif’s friends the Warriors Three. Since she wasn’t a casualty of Hela’s attack on Asgard, the door was left open for Lady Sif’s MCU return to happen. Later, it was confirmed that she would finally make her long-awaited MCU return in Thor: Love and Thunder. However, she ultimately appeared ahead of that movie in Loki.
Loki cameo was received well by fans, a part in Shang-Chi could have worked out even better. On the surface, an Asgardian warrior like Lady Sif doesn’t feel at all like an obvious choice for a kung fu epic, but it actually would have felt quite fitting. Similar to the situation with the Abomination (Tim Roth) and Wong (Benedict Wong), Sif could have been one of the combatants participating in Shang-Chi’s fighting tournament. An Asgardian, a kung fu expert, a Hulk villain, and a Master of the Mystic Arts all competing in the same event certainly would have been a fun concept. Including characters that represent different cultures and fighting styles is an important element to martial arts tournament movies like Mortal Kombat and Bloodsport, which is why Lady Sif would have been an asset to Shang-Chi.
On his ArtStation account, Love shared several pieces of concept art that depicted a cut scene that saw Sif exploring the ice-world before her fight with Gorr. In the artwork, Sif can be seen exploring a shrine dedicated to Falligar in an ice cave that features a large golden monument, surrounded by the god’s worshippers. After investigating the monument, Sif makes her way toward an opening, where Falligar’s corpse is revealed in the distance, appearing closely to how it looks in the final film. According to Love, the artwork was created early in production process. Check out Love’s artwork below and click here to see even more.

Sif had been absent from the ongoing MCU narrative prior to Love and Thunder since 2015, when she appeared in season 2 of Agents of SHIELD. While Thor and Sif’s close friends The Warriors Three appeared in 2017’s Thor: Ragnarok, Sif was absent from Asgard during Hela’s (Cate Blanchett) attack, due to Alexander being preoccupied filming the NBC crime drama Blindspot. According to Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige in a 2017 interview, Sif had likely been banished by Loki (Tom Hiddleston) when he was disguised as Odin (Anthony Hopkins) following Thor: The Dark World. Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame co-director Joe Russo also addressed Sif’s fate in both of his films.
