The story of a doll who is possessed by a spirit or demon is one of the horror stories that is often raised by Hollywood, some of the doll characters are so famous like Chucky and Annabelle. These films also have a lot of similar premise, such as the existence of dolls that were originally fun and then turned into terror when filled with evil supernatural beings. But in the movies, these spirit-filled dolls aren’t just scary. They are even said to be able to take the lives of humans who keep them.
1. Poltergeist (1983)
The film, directed by Tobe Hooper, tells the story of Steven and Diane’s family and their three children. One night, their daughter, Carol, talks mysteriously into the television.
Other strange events occurred in their home, ranging from glass suddenly breaking, crooked cutlery to moving on its own. Parapsychologists then investigate the strange occurrences. They discover that there is a poltergeist disorder involving many ghosts in the house.
2. Child’s Play (1988)
This film tells the story of Karen Barclay (Aubrey Plaza) who gives a doll to her son, Andy Barclay (Gabriel Bateman). While playing, the doll tells Andi that his name is Chucky.
Chucky then does evil to humans, even to the point of killing. He also plans to transfer his soul to Andy’s body. But the plan was foiled by Andy’s parents.
3. Saw (2004)
Directed by James Wan, this film tells the story of photographer Adam Stanheight and oncologist Dr. Lawrence Gordon who wakes up in the former bathroom with his legs chained. Both of them panic because they don’t remember what happened to them. They later found a voice recorder in his trouser pocket.
The voice on Adam’s recorder told him to run. Meanwhile, Gordon voice recorder to kill Adam. If Gordon didn’t carry out his orders, his wife and child would be killed.
4. Annabelle: Creation (2017)
Annabelle: Creation is directed by David F Sanberg, whose story begins with the family of Samuel Mullins, his wife and their only child, Bee. It is said that Bee died in a car accident, then Samuel and his wife promised the spirit to still be able to see their daughter. But catastrophe appears and wreaks havoc.
5. Dead Silence (2007)
This film tells the story of Jamie and Lisa who get a package of a mysterious doll named Billy. They then decided to take care of the doll. When Lisa plays with the doll, a scary female figure suddenly appears and kills Lisa. Jamie was then questioned by the police for allegedly killing his wife.
Jamie then explains that his wife died after receiving a mysterious doll package. However, the police were reluctant to investigate the doll because they thought it had nothing to do with Lisa’s death.
6. The Boy (2016)
The Boy tells the story of a doll named Brahms who is dressed like a boy. The doll was raised by Sister Greta. At first Greta thought it was strange to have to take care of dolls. However, Mrs Heelshires, the owner of the doll, insisted that Brahms should not be treated lightly.
Greta is also asked to comply with all applicable regulations while raising Brahms and is warned not to violate them. Some of the rules consisted of feeding him, taking him to play, reading story books, and playing Brahms’ favorite song.
