Ahead of the release, Lionsgate Unveils New Poster for The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent

Ahead of the film’s release, Lionsgate unveiled a new poster for The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent. This poster features Nicolas Cage, Pedro Pascal, Ike Barinholtz, Neil Patrick Harris, and Tiffany Haddish presented in a retro format that is quite unique. The film is now scheduled to hit theaters on April 22, 2022.

The poster itself perfectly teases the absurdist action, with helicopters in the background contrasting the sun while Cage and Pedro Pascal drive away from the explosion with people on dirt bikes chasing them. In the middle of the poster we see the cast, which features Cage greeting the audience with some cool nuances and Pascal holding a gold gun. Finally, the poster cutely reminds us that “Nicolas Cage is Nick Cage”.

From this poster and the latest trailer, this film looks like it’s a crazy fun celebration of Cage’s career, while also just being a very entertaining action comedy. Cage has recently appeared in a few smaller horror and thriller films, such as Mandy and Willy’s Wonderland, but this film goes back to simpler times.

The meta film, which will reference films such as Leaving Las Vegas, Face/Off, Gone in 60 Seconds and other Cage films, was scripted by Tom Gormican and Kevin Etten. The film’s story will follow Nicolas Cage at a time in his life when he desperately wanted a role in Quentin Tarantino’s upcoming film. During this time, he lived with his teenage daughter, although their relationship was not very good. The film also features Cage talking to “a self-centered 1990s version of himself mocking him for making too many bad films and for not being a star anymore.”

If that sounds interesting, that’s only a small introduction to the story as The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent goes even further into the fictional world of Nicolas Cage. The plot thickens when Cage, who is heavily in debt, is asked to appear at the birthday party of a Mexican billionaire, who happens to be a huge fan of the actor. The billionaire hopes to give Cage the script he wrote to get him to star in the project.

Pascal stars as Javi, a very wealthy Nick Cage (Cage) fan who wants the actor to come to his birthday celebration, so they can live out his more iconic film roles together. Nick Cage is said to be in need of money and Javi wants his favorite actor to attend, so what could go wrong?

While Cage continues to bond with the man, he is told by the CIA that “the billionaire is actually a drug cartel kingpin who has kidnapped the daughter of a Mexican presidential candidate.” Cage is then recruited by the U.S. government. to get information about the billionaire. To make matters worse when the man brings “Cage’s daughter and ex-wife to reconciliation, and their lives are at stake.”
